Contemplative Spirituality
When
people come to Sacred Heart Monastery, they first notice the peaceful
quiet, the pastoral beauty of the environment, and the prayerful
demeanor of the Sisters. This sense of the divine is the heart of
contemplative spirituality.
A contemplative monastic gradually learns,
through faithful and sincere engagement with the Word of God in
its many manifestations, to live her life in an ever-expanding God-consciousness.
This means that even the most mundane thing can be seen as part
of All That Is, and that all creation is present in everything that
is, was, and will be created.
We are all sacred vessels of the altar, boldly approaching
the throne of God with a particular and unique grace which only
we possess. We exist because God loves us; we are loved into life
continually from the moment of our conception until we pass into
eternity.
Sacred Heart Monastery provides an environment largely untouched
by the vicissitudes of crowded, noisy urbanity, while wisely
using modern technology to remain connected with the world at large.
This unusual melding of the sacred and profane gives us the impetus
to continue on our path of assimilating, as if by osmosis, the
divine presence. Ultimately unknowable, occasionally glimpsed,
fundamentally felt and sensed, God guides, protects, and provides
for us upon the vast, open plains where we have pitched our tent.
