Funds
The
Sacred Heart Benedictine Foundation has established some funds for
specific purposes. These are as follows:
Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery
This fund is used for general
needs within the Monastery to carry out the mission and to respond
to needs within our rural community. Examples of grants: food baskets
for the poor, goggles for the rural volunteer firefighters, who
protect our property and the surrounding area, support of camp for
handicapped citizens. These are but a few. This fund is flexible
in its use.
Education
This fund is used to support the education of our Sisters.
Particular emphasis is given to new members who join so that they
can be prepared for ministry. It is also used to support sisters
in ministry who are required to keep updating themselves to maintain
their credentials.
Retirement
This is a very popular fund. Many of our older sisters
have taught or provided health care to thousands upon thousands
of people at no or very little cost. These sisters did not think
of themselves or their future, only service to the Church. Those
who were recipients of this service enjoy gifting to assist the Sisters
they love in their retirement.
The Benedictine Sisters began to operate a formalized
Spirituality Center in 1990. Approximately 2,000 persons come through
the center in a given year. Some of the programs are presented
by the sisters. Other programs are offered by other people or organizations,
but the sisters offer the hospitality and the spiritual environment.
We are overwhelmed with the hunger people have for a spiritual
root in their lives. We welcome seekers of all faiths.
Vocations are essential to the continuance of the religious life
here in this Monastery. A concerted effort is being made to make
women aware of our Monastery and its gifts to the Church.
Subiaco Manor and Spirituality Sponsorship at St. Vincent’s
Care Center and Marillac Manor
We are unique in that this Foundation
raises funds to support works sponsored by the Sisters. Marillac
Manor is a 78 unit senior retirement facility in Bismarck, North
Dakota and Subiaco Manor is a 10 unit senior retirement facility
in Dickinson, North Dakota. St. Vincent’s
Care Center is a 101 bed skilled nursing facility in Bismarck, ND.
What is unique about these facilities is that they are operated as
places of hospitality with an emphasis on community. (link here to

Where needed most
Many donors leave it to the Foundations discretion
to fund worthy projects within the mission and scope of the Foundation.
Other
The Foundation at times runs a special campaign. For example
one of the retirement facilities needed an elevator. We try to
respond if feasible to meet the needs at the time.
Sometimes individuals
come forth with their own idea of how to assist. Some examples
are to donate a car, computer assistance, hay, paschal candle and
stand, etc.
