How To Find Us
Our monastery is situated on the northern plains, in gently rolling
hills covered almost year round with various kinds of wheat, corn,
sunflowers, safflower, barley, oats, and other small grains. Western
North Dakota is almost exclusively agricultural, although energy
development—including coal gasification, ethanol, and wind—are
an increasing presence. Winters can be very cold, but there are many
days of crystal clarity, blue skies, and moderate temperatures. July
is our hottest month. North Dakota’s weather pattern facilitates
the short growing season, and provides for an endless variety of
sunsets, sunrises, temperatures, and wind velocities. The Northern
Lights, in rare appearances, are a spectacular display of God’s
creativity.
Bismarck International Airport is conveniently within a comfortable
driving distance from Sacred Heart Monastery—about 75 miles
east of us. The airport is serviced by both Northwest and United
Airlines. Dickinson also has an airport, about 30 miles west of us.
One of the Sisters would be happy to pick you up at either airport.
Rental cars are also available at either airport.

We are about 275 miles from North Dakota’s border with Minnesota. Take
Interstate 94 west to the Richardton exit (Exit 84). Turn right onto Highway

you go through Richardton. Drive 1.2 miles to the junction of Highway 8 and Highway
10, and continue straight on Highway 10 another .6 miles until you reach the
monastery, which will be on your right. You will see our wind turbines and signage
out front.

From the West (Western North Dakota, Montana)
We are about 85 miles from North Dakota’s border with Montana. Take Interstate
94 east to the Taylor exit (Exit 78). Turn left and when the road intersects
at Highway 10, just past the railroad tracks, turn right. Continue through Taylor
for about 4 miles, until you reach the monastery. You will see our wind turbines
and signage out front.
